Our Services

Rural/Metro® has brought top line emergency equipment into Salem to provide the best 911 response service to the community.  Rural/Metro also has additional vehicles in its fleet to serve local hospitals, care centers, senior facility and private citizens with BLS (Basic Life Support) transport.  Organizations can contract with Rural Metro’s medically trained personnel to transport patients who need specialized care (such as oxygen) for non-emergency transport to doctor’s appointments or other transport needs.

     These services include:

Pre-Scheduled Transport Care

Rural/Metro Ambulance has created a non-emergent stretcher service offered to facilities by special Agreement in select communities. This service is also known as non-emergent alternative transportation. We dedicate a staff of friendly and well-groomed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic to provide this service to a hospital or facility. Our private dispatch is devoted to help with all the facilities stretcher transportation needs including pre-scheduled transports. For questions or more detailed information regarding how we may service you, please contact Mike Andrews at Mike_Andrews@rmetro.com. We look forward to being your preferred provider for safety and healthcare solutions.

Emergent 9-1-1

Rural/Metro Ambulance is contracted with the City of Salem to provide Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support ambulance transportation.  Rural/Metro Ambulance has built a partnership with the City of Salem and Fire Department to provide residents the best emergency response available.

Ambulances are staffed with one EMT-Paramedic and one EMT-Basic. Our personnel are thoroughly screened during the hiring process and held to standards that meet or exceed our contractual and state requirements.

In the event of an emergency, Salem Firefighter/Paramedics will respond on Advanced Life Support engines or ladder companies to provide rapid, first response medical care.  At the same time, a Rural/Metro ALS ambulance will be dispatched to transport the ill or injured person to the hospital and continue treatment.  Salem Firefighter/Paramedics will ride with the ambulance if the patient’s condition requires two paramedics.

Non-Emergent Care

Our non-emergent services include pre-scheduled and non-emergency ambulance transportation of patients between hospitals and other healthcare facilities. This service is often called "interfacility" or "non-emergent."

The medical transportation needs of hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities are ensured a quick, safe and efficient transport service by utilizing our services. Every call is professionally handled by our friendly staff in our Dispatch Center. Callers are provided with accurate arrival estimates as well as skilled, polite and well groomed. EMT’s and Paramedics.

Types of Non Emergent Transportation:

ALS- Advanced Life Support care that requires a certified Paramedic to administer medical care.

BLS- Basic Life Support care that requires a certified Emergency Medical Technician to administer medical care.

Bariatric Transport

The Baratric Transport Unit was created as a resource in the transportation of the obese patients.  Its main purpose is to create a safe environment that allows obese patients to preserve their dignity during transport.

The goal of the Bariatric Transport unit is to integrate and apply ergonomically safe transport equipment and techniques with patient care standards to include comfort and safety to both the crewmembers and the patient. The transport unit uses a ramp and winch system to pull the gurney into the ambulance. Stretchers hold weights of up to 1600 lbs.

Event Medical Services Stand-by

Rural/Metro Ambulance offers Medical Service Stand-Bys for special events (carnivals, company picnics, sporting events, etc.).  All events are a two-hour minimum due to preparation time.  We offer several types of ambulance stand-bys based on your needs and the nature of your event.

Additional staff may be added to create a First Aid Booth. These personnel are charged on a per-hour basis.  The presence of staff at a First Aid Booth will allow the ambulance to transport any critical patients while leaving certified personnel on-site until another ambulance can arrive at your event.

If you would like to reserve a Rural/Metro Ambulance to be at your event for a medical standby, please contact Mike Andrews at (503) 315-2260, or Mike_Andrews@rmetro.com.
